5 wholesale distribution software options: workflow and AI compared

A buyer's checklist for procurement, partial receipts, available stock, B2B orders, settlement and AI permissions, with sourced vendor claims and clear gaps.

Vendor information checked October 16, 2026. This guide is published by Wholety, one of the products discussed. It is a buyer's shortlist, not an independent ranking or a hands-on test of every vendor. Public product pages describe possible capabilities; confirm the edition, region, configuration, integrations and current terms in your own trial.

Quick answer: which system belongs on your shortlist?

If you import finished goods and sell them to business customers, start with the system that can preserve one chain of evidence from supplier order to receipt, available stock, customer order and payment. The right choice depends on where your current records break apart. A large suite may be appropriate if you need a full general ledger, multiple legal entities or complex warehouse integrations. A smaller workflow may be easier to evaluate if your immediate problem is keeping purchasing, stock, sales and settlement in step.

System Why a distributor might shortlist it AI described in official material Verify before buying
Wholety One shared workflow for supplier orders, receiving, available stock, B2B orders and order-linked settlement. Your own Agent can connect through MCP. Authorized external Agent access to business operations; the Agent you connect performs the reasoning. Whether its current finance scope meets your needs: Wholety is not a full general ledger. Confirm your required imports, integrations and regional requirements in a trial.
Acumatica Distribution Management Broad distribution ERP spanning purchasing, inventory, orders, warehouse and financial management. This cited distribution page describes operational automation; assess any AI capability separately by edition and workflow. Implementation scope, warehouse process, ecommerce integrations and total cost.
Zoho ERP for wholesale distribution Procurement, inventory, field sales, fulfillment and accounting in one distribution offering. Zia is described for anomaly and demand analysis; Zoho also describes guided creation of quotes, orders and invoices. Geographic availability, required modules, tax setup and how AI output is reviewed.
Cin7 Inventory and order operations with B2B and multichannel needs. Forecasting, document recognition and an assistant for questions about business data or tasks are advertised. Whether the chosen edition covers your purchasing, customer pricing, accounting handoff and warehouse steps.
NetSuite Broad ERP for teams needing deeper finance and organizational scale. NetSuite describes embedded AI and agents; its AI Connector Service supports governed connections to external assistants. The edition, connector configuration, permissions, implementation effort and full cost.

These are five different fits, not a scored “top five.” We included systems with public information relevant to distribution and different approaches to AI. We have not independently measured deployment time, customer satisfaction, AI adoption or return on investment.

Run the same order through every demo

Ask each vendor to show the following with your sample data, not a slide deck:

  1. Create a purchase order for 200 units from a supplier. Receive 120 units now and 80 later. Can the team see ordered, received and outstanding quantities without treating the unreceived 80 as on-hand stock?
  2. Add freight to that shipment. Can you see the allocation method, resulting SKU cost and source document? If you import, ask how currency and later invoice differences are handled.
  3. Reserve 35 of 100 on-hand units for an existing customer order. When a second salesperson quotes the same SKU, can they distinguish 100 physical from 65 available units and see the commitments behind the difference? Walk through this example.
  4. Place an order for a B2B customer with its own item code and price. Can the team trace approval, warehouse dispatch, partial delivery, receivable and payment against the same order?
  5. Export the records and review who can read, draft, approve and change each step. Ask what happens when a request times out or a user edits the order at the same time.

Record a pass, a configured pass, a third-party dependency or a fail for each step. Require a saved record that a teammate can reopen. A feature list alone cannot establish that these steps work together in the edition you would buy.

What does “AI in ERP” actually mean?

The five examples show at least three distinct patterns: forecasting or anomaly detection (such as the capabilities Cin7 and Zoho describe), an embedded assistant or guided action (described by several vendors), and a governed connection to an external Agent (described by NetSuite and Wholety). One product may use several patterns. A label on a product page does not establish that a particular customer has enabled the feature or that it works in your account.

For an AI demo, ask the vendor to use a real, permission-controlled order: What source records did the answer use? Is it reading current warehouse stock or an old export? Can it distinguish a suggestion from a saved draft and an approved transaction? Which permissions apply? What record can you reopen after an action? See our worked Agent purchase example for the checks we apply to Wholety itself.

Wholety currently lets a customer connect their own Agent through MCP to discover and use authorized business operations. A read-only key can inspect records; a business write scope is needed to save a draft. An Agent still needs correct SKU mapping, current data and human review. This does not mean Wholety provides autonomous purchasing, demand forecasting or a managed AI operator today. See the Agent connection and permission scope.

When Wholety is a fit, and when it is not

Wholety is worth testing when a finished-goods importer or wholesaler needs shared purchase, warehouse, sales and order-linked settlement records, including B2B customer ordering, and wants its own Agent to work from those records under permissions. Start with one real representative order and check the distribution ERP fit criteria.

Choose a different shortlist first if you need manufacturing planning, payroll, a complete general ledger, or an integration that must work out of the box and has not been verified with Wholety. Also check whether your team can prepare clean product, partner and opening-stock data before migrating. Review the migration workflow.

Sources and update method

Vendor descriptions above come from the linked official product pages, checked October 16, 2026. Wholety's workflow claims are supported by its distribution fit page, operations manual, and Agent walkthrough. Pricing and feature packaging can change. Before selecting a system, ask each vendor for a written scope and demonstrate the same order in the version offered to your team.
